Surat: An Overview

The eighth largest city of India, Surat is located in the state of Gujarat. It is situated on the banks of the Tapi river, close to the Arabian Sea due to which it was once a flourishing sea port. The creation of dams on the Tapi led to the original port being closed. However, the city still serves as an important sea port in today’s day and age. The city is also home to several tourist destinations. These include the Dumas beach which is located about 18 kms from the city, the Sardar Patel Museum, the Ambika Niketan temple and the Sarthana Nature Park.
