Interesting Places to Visit in Katra in 2022 for a Mesmerizing Religious Trip

Katra is a tiny town in the Udhampur district of Jammu and Kashmir, located in the picturesque Trikuta Mountains. It is most well-known for Maa Vaishno Devi, one of the holiest Hindu pilgrimage sites. Apart from being a pilgrimage destination, Katra has a lot more to offer. There are numerous religious, historical, and picturesque attractions to visit in and near Katra that are well worth seeing. It's also a shopper's dream come true. The major market here sells leather goods, fruits, rugs, and other interesting items. If you're planning a vacation to this divine location, don't forget to include these sites in your itinerary for a thorough tour.

  1. The Vaishno Devi temple - This is the first thing that comes to mind when we think of Katra. The temple is located in the Trikuta Mountains. The shrine contains a cave where Mata manifested herself in three rock forms known as Pindies. Darshani Darwaza, the yatra's entry gate, is about 1 mile from the bus stop. You must climb 13 kilometers uphill from Katra to reach the sacred place. For the aged and infirm, horse and palanquin services are available. There is also the option of taking a helicopter flight to Sanjichhat and walking 2.5 kilometers to the shrine from there. Sanjichhat is a lovely location from which to gaze out at the Himalayas.

  1. Charan Paduka- This is one of the most auspicious spots to visit in Katra, located on the path to Maa Vaishno Devi's cave or Bhawan. Maa's footprints can be observed on a rock slab in Charan Paduka. Mata Vaishno Devi, also known as Vaishnavi, was being pursued by Bhairavnath, a saint turned demon. She was on her way to her cave when she decided to stop for a while. That's when her footprints became ensnared in the rocks. Before continuing your ascension to Mata's cave, pay a visit to Charan Paduka to request Mata's blessings.

  1. Ban Ganga-  is another holy halt on the way to Vaishno Devi. It is one of the most beautiful spots in Katra. This Ganga originates in the Shivalik Range of the Himalayas, and visiting it is one of the top things to do in Kashmir in June. Mata Vaishnavi was on her way to her cave-dwelling when the monkey accompanying her became thirsty. With no water around, Maa threw an arrow into the earth, causing the Ganga to spring up. As a result, it was given the name Ban (arrow) Ganga.

  1.  Bhairavnath Temple- After being immersed in Maa's spirit and energy at Vaishno Devi temple, make your way up to Baba Bhairavnath, one of the top Katra tourist spots. To go to Bhairavnath temple, hike 2 to 3 kilometers uphill from Vaishno Devi. The view from up here is more spectacular and captivating. This shrine is devoted to the demonized saint Bhairav. Maa Vaishno Devi killed him here. He was forgiven since he repented of his misdeeds. This location is regarded as essential as Vaishno Devi because Maa herself declared that a journey to my shrine would be incomplete without a visit to Bhairavnath temple.

  1. Jhajjar Kotli- is one of the most popular spots to visit in Katra. Your ideal picnic will be realized here at Jhajjar Kotli. When traveling with your family, this is the best site to visit in and around Katra. Being here is like giving your senses a refreshing spa treatment. This is one of the most popular destinations to visit near Katra because of its beautiful surroundings and relaxing atmosphere. This tranquil area is around 15 kilometers from Katra.

  1. Raghunath Temple- the temple is located 8 kilometers from the city of Jammu. It was erected by Maharaja Ranbir Singh and is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Katra. This temple, dedicated to Lord Rama, is one of the largest in Northern India. Lord Krishna, Ganesh Ji, and other Hindu deities are also worshiped at the temples. The temple is designed in the Mughal architectural style, while the main tower is designed in the Sikh architectural style. You can also see paintings representing religious verses from the Holy Gita, Mahabharata, and Ramayana.

  1. Sanasar- often known as 'Mini Gulmarg,' is around 17 kilometers from Patnitop. It is a little out of the way from Katra; you will need to travel for around 3 hours on the road to get there. The location is a magnificent domicile with an enthralling lake, hills, and forests. During the summer in Kashmir, it also allows you to participate in adrenaline-pumping activities like paragliding, hot air ballooning, and horseback riding. Sanasar has enough activities to keep you busy for the entire day. Visit Nag Temple, Hidden Creek, and Sanasar Lake, and don't forget to see the waterfalls.
