Why The Ashtalakshmi Temple Is A Must Visit Place In Chennai?

Built on the wishes of Sri Chandrasekara Saraswati Swamigal, the famous Ashtalakshmi temple is one of the important landmarks in Chennai. Established in 1976, this lovely temple has attracted innumerable devotees and tourists from all parts of the country and even abroad. History: It is believed that Goddess Lakshmi had surfaced from the ocean when it was swirled during the fight between Devas and Asuras who represent good and evil respectively. The goddess came to give wealth and prosperity to her devotees. Also, Vishnu who married this goddess in eight forms and hence this temple got the name Ashtalakshmi, where the term ‘Ashta’ refers to number eight.

Architecture: This temple takes pride in standing gracefully adorning the colourful Sanctorum. It was built in the shape of the sacred symbol Om and has been built in accordance with the Ashtanga Vimana style consisting of eight parts. Dedicated to Goddess Lakshmi, and Vishnu at the second level this shrine has many forms of Lakshmi at different levels.
